Three times Malawi's Entertainer of the Year, leading the Likhubula River Dance Band and singing about ordinary life rather than politics.
Robert Fumulani, born in Zomba in 1948, was one of Malawi's most popular bandleaders of the late 1980s and 1990s.
He led the Likhubula River Dance Band and pioneered Afroma, a fusion of funk, rock and reggae with Malawian music. He won Entertainer of the Year three times in the 1980s, and put his earnings into the Chileka nightclub and the Likhubula Entertainment Centre. He died in 1998.
